Gaurav Googoi’s Urgent appeal to the Prime Minister
Guwahati, August 23: Gaurav Gogoi, A Congress MP and Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Has Reached Out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Regarding The Serious issue of Illegal Stone Quarrying in the Panimura Rage of SSM Anglong District.
In his correspondence dated August 22, gogoi expressed concern that quarry operators, where we we initialy authorized Authorized to Extract 300,000 Cubic Meters of Stone Over a Sween-Span Starting in 2017, Significantly exceded this limit.
He Highlighted Local Reports Indicating that the extraction has alredy surpassed 8 million cubic meters, a staggering Amount that threatens the environment, the environment, located, and state review.
Gogoi Noted, “These activities have resulted in Severe Air and Noise Pollution, Jeopardizing The Health of NEARBY Residents and Causing Substantial Financial Losses to the State.”
He pointed out that this situation is part of a larger trend of Illegal mining through Assam, Recalling his previous efforts to address similar concerns.
He referenceed a tragic incident in january 2025, where nine workers lip their lives in an illegal rat-heart mine in Umrangso, Dima Hasao. Despite Promies of Investigations and Mine Closures, Gogoi Claimed that Progress has been minimal.
Additionally, He mentioned a May 2025 Investigation by the Enforcement Directorate that Revealed A Coal Mining and Transportation Syndicate Syndicate Allegedly Operating in Assam and Meghalaya, Involving Ilelegal crosses-committed Transport, Falsified Documents, Cash Transactions, and Collusion Between Illegal Miners and Industrial Clients.
“It is clear that Illegal Quarrying in Karbi Anglong is linked to the same syndicate that oversees mineral extraction across the state. Falsified records, Organized Transport, and Political Protection, ”He stated.
The Congress MP Urged The Prime Minister to Initiate an independent Investigation Into the Quarrying Activities in Panimura, RASSESS The Status of Previous Coal-Related Inquirys, and Promptly Halt ALLELLY HALTLY HALTLY HALTH Operations.
He also called for accountability from not only the operators but also the officials and political figures who have may be facilitating these violations.
“I hope you will address this issue with the urgency it deserves and take the Necessary Actions to Enforce the Law, SafeGuard Resources, and ENSURE Accountability,” Googoi CONCLUDEDED.
